The Church of the Pilgrim Virgin is a scallop-shaped Roman Catholic chapel located in the heart of the city, along the route of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago.
It began construction in 1778 and is one of the most symbolic and important buildings in the city of Pontevedra.
The Camino de Santiago has been, and continues to be, without a doubt, the oldest, busiest and most celebrated pilgrimage route on the old continent.
There are a number of different pathways leading to Santiago - Pontevedra sits on the Portuguese Way.

The city itself is home to Pontevedra's Provincial Museum - considered one of the best in Spain - as well as the monasteries of San Francisco and Santa Clara.
Whilst the surrounding area is home to the likes of Soutomaior Castle and the archeological ruins in La Lanzada.
Pontevedra also hosts a number of cultural spectacles such as Carnival in February, the Jazz & Blues Festival and Itineranta - a festival of travelling street performances - both in July.
And of course Fiesta in August!

The Cíes Islands are an archipelago located off the coast of Pontevedra, at the mouth of the Ría de Vigo.
They were declared a Natural Reserve in 1980 and are included in the National Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia, created in 2002.
Enjoy a boat trip out of Vigo and an afternoon on the white sands of a truly beautiful, world class beach.
La Isla de Ons is the main island of a small archipelago in the Ría de Pontevedra in Galicia, Spain.
Administratively, Ons belongs to the municipality of Bueu, which has a regular ferry connection with the island, as do the peninsular towns of Portonovo, Sanxenxo, Marín and Aldán.
Pontevedra is home to a vast range of cafes, bars and restaurants.
